As the New Year approaches, most of us have a resolution to lose weight. I've loved hearing from my autoimmune illness people how effective different food techniques have been for them in reducing symptoms; if you're struggling with autoimmune issues, I hope this can bring some hope to you that things can be better. Running helps you maintain a calorie deficit by increasing the number of calories you burn. You can increase your calorie deficit and your rate of weight loss — at least in theory — by eating less. The problem is that running, like other forms of exercise, increases appetite which makes it difficult to eat less — something known as the compensation effect. Psychologically, knowing that on Friday (or whatever day you choose) you'll be allowed to eat any stuff you want will help you to follow the diet during the week. This is the main reason for which you can follow this lifestyle long time (even forever but, as I'll explain later on this article, you don't really need to be so strict). Conversely, a strict diet quickly becomes a torture because you can't see the end of the tunnel. You'll feel damned for life.
