Online streaming is bigger than ever, and with so many streaming services adding new shows and movies every week, it can be nearly impossible to sort through the good and the bad. In 2009, Avatar was the most popular film, The Lost Symbol was Amazon's best-selling book, and American Idol (Fox) was the top TV show. Slumdog Millionaire won an Oscar for Best Picture, Sean Penn (Milk) won an Oscar for Best Actor, Kate Winslet (The Reader) won an Oscar for Best Actress, and 30 Rock (NBC) won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Hollywood Week continued that trend. According to Marc Berman of MediaWeek, the overnight ratings for the Tuesday Idol were solid: the show scored a 14.0 rating. Ratings have yo-yo'd all over the place this season. Last week (with three episodes) reached 24-26 million people and went higher than the equivalent week last year. But last night's show reached about 26.3 million people ( per Hollywood Reporter ), which is about 25% lower than the first night of Hollywood Week last season (which came a week later and scored a 17.3 rating). Still it's growth over last week and last week was bigger than the week before. American Idol is the #1 show on TV.
Sony Crackle is another free app available on the Google Play Store to stream TV Shows and Movies online. Being a Sony Entertainment product you can expect a large number of movies from Sony Pictures. Sony Crackle has a bouquet of movies which can be streamed without any subscription albeit Ads are injected to support the App. They have also partnered with other big production houses. 26 Aug, 2009: In the morning I was much wiser about Noshiro, the end of my final stretch on this long hard tramp. A phone call from a friend had planned to meet me in the lobby of the Dormy Inn. The plan was to have a few days together, mainly to celebrate the successful completion of Stage One of my mission. And, if at all possible, to relax the best I could before returning to a so-called normal lifestyle in Tokyo. There was only thirty kilometers left to Noshiro and I had two days to do it in. It was not often on the road that I could say that the last stretch was going to be a piece of cake. There was funny feeling in my stomach. It probably had something to do with this being the closing of a chapter. In a while the funny feeling lessoned, for a part of me looked forward to the following chapters to come, too.
