Try our delicious weight-loss meal plans, designed by EatingWell's registered dietitians and food experts to help you lose weight. When the weather is cold, and the day is short, human bodies return to the natural, evolved state of slow metabolism and more sleep. Get more sleep during the early, dark evening hours, and wake up earlier to catch every ray of sunlight possible. When you wake up early and get more morning sunlight, it has a positive effect on your sleep cycle. More sleep before midnight, especially in winter, helps your mood stay stable, stops you from midnight snacking, and improves the quality of your sleep.
The reason we experience plateaus during any weight loss program is that our bodies are very efficient at retaining stored energy. If you find yourself in a plateau phase, you can try simply making a change to your routine, e.g. change around the meals that you are replacing (i.e. replace breakfast and dinner and have a portion control meal at lunchtime), try a different type of exercise, or exercise at a different time of the day.
