These 5 strategies will keep away winter weight gain — despite comfort-food cravings, evenings on the couch, and roomy sweaters that hide every bulge. Skip alcohol, sodas, teas, and lassis (yogurt drinks) and stick to water. You'll be drinking much more than usual to counter the spice and heat on your plate; something that's cold and refreshing (not sweet, tangy, or bubbly) is all you need. Servers know to keep your water glass filled to the rim at all times. Many places also serve water in copper cups to keep the liquid ice cold. Unfortunately, we are losing the obesity battle because we are eating more than ever. But the exercise myth is still regularly deployed by the food and beverage industry — which are increasingly under fire for selling us too many unhealthy products.

Again using this same example, if you eat 250 fewer calories and burn 250 more calories, this same 500 calorie deficit would exist yet again, thus causing weight loss to occur. The equilibrium between calorie consumption and calorie expenditure is essential to loose weight and its healthy maintenance. I think not focusing on the scale, but rather the kind of yummy whole foods I wanted to put in my body, contributed to my success.
